Instructional Designer/E-learning Developer

Minimum Qualifications

  •  University degree or certificate in Instructional Design Technology, Adult Learning, or Digital Media (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience in learning and development with technology expertise
  •  Bilingual in English and French an definite asset
  • High degree of technical proficiency in a variety of eLearning, web development  and digital media tools including expert knowledge using Articulate's Storyline 2 and Adobe's Captivate 9 to deliver interactive engaging eLearning
  • Computer proficiency including advanced skills with MS Office applications
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.0, AODA guidelines and responsive design
  • Knowledge of video production and post-production processes an asset
  • Experience working in a client service and project management environment

Knowledge and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge and professional experience with adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies
  • Advanced knowledge of learning management systems (including SCORM) and digital learning
  • Professional experience with a variety of web design and programming languages (e.g. PHP, HTML, CSS and jQuery)
  • Strong capacity to assess technical needs and explain complex information
  • Strong communication skills (e.g. written, oral) to distill and deliver content in a crisp, compelling way
  • High level of interpersonal and collaboration skills to provide excellent customer service and build strong client relationships with senior level stakeholders
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and quality assurance skills to troubleshoot a variety of complex problems, both technical and project-related
  •  Ability to manage freelancers and vendors to ensure deliverables are achieved
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines for various stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of technology infrastructure (e.g. servers, networking, reporting architecture, and web standards) an asset 



  • Design and Develop e-learning modules and technology solutions for a variety of audiences
  • Identify relevant design and technology tools that will most effectively accomplish the performance objectives and learning outcomes required in a particular project
  • Develop course content including storyboards, scripts, and other formats
  • Ensure web-based learning complies with assessment and tracking requirements
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to develop content and assets
  • Act as a resource on eLearning technology/techniques
  • Lead the design and development of eLearning and interactive websites in front end development and in collaboration with back end coders, with maintainable design considerations
  • Lead the design of layouts, templates, interfaces, and visual elements, and collaborate with external contractors, as needed
  • Apply design and development standards in alignment with WCAG 2.0 guidelines, AODA and responsive design practices to provide expertise and client advice
  • Liaise with subject matter experts during design and development for feedback
  • Execute testing and client revisions with detailed documentation, communications
  • Provide quality assurance on deliverables, including online modules, storyboards, videos, websites and other multi-media products to meet organizational standards
  • Stay current with emerging learning technologies and assess their effectiveness for clients to support and improve Design team products and services
  • Collaborate with clients and other staff in the development, organization, and delivery of multi-media sessions (e.g., web conferences, webcasts, video filming)
  • Moderate online learning sessions and provide technical support
  • Update websites in various Content Management Systems and/or HTML/PHP, including updates to text, images, and interactions
  • Assist with other duties related to the production of learning solutions, as assigned
